ILSI

IOC

The ILSI International Organization Committee (IOC) recommends and implements programs of interest to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).  ILSI is a recognized nongovernmental organization by WHO and has specialized consultative status with FAO.

By working with these organizations, the IOC enhances ILSI’s understanding of the policy directions of these United Nations agencies; affords an opportunity for FAO and WHO to receive ILSI’s scientific input related to nutrition and physical activity, food safety, chemical risk assessment and environmental health; and contributes to the success of the policies and programs of FAO and WHO.

Through the IOC, ILSI is involved in Codex Alimentarius.  Recent comments to Codex are provided below.

The activities of the committee are supported by 9 ILSI member companies and guided by scientists from these companies working with scientific advisors.  The current scientific advisors are:

  • Dr. G. Harvey Anderson, University of Toronto, Canada
  • Dr. Corazon V.C. Barba, Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, The Phillipines
  • Dr. Alan Boobis, Imperial College London, United Kingdom
  • Dr. Ib Knudsen, Danish Institute for Food and Veterinary Research (retired), Denmark
  • Dr. Flavio Zambrone, Planitox, Brazil
