OBJECTIVE
The ILSI North America Technical Committee on Lifestyle and Weight Management committee is working to address factors contributing to childhood obesity.
Work on Portion Size
The committee is interested in the effects of age on children’s response to large portions and children’s self-selected portion sizes; and do visual cues explain the capacity of large portions to promote intake in children?
In seeking to answer these questions, the committee is reviewing projects regarding:
- the effect of large portions on food intake for children of all ages
- the effect of plate size in relation to portion size
- the effect of plate size in regards to bite size
- the effect of age on choices
Behavior Change
As its second project, the committee is mining existing data to see how interventions may change physical activity levels.
