A New Approach to FAO and WHO Outreach

ILSI's Platform for International Partnership, or PIP, is a new way to coordinating ILSI's going relationships with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Both FAO and WHO recognized ILSI as an is an official, accredited NGO.

Over the past 20 years, ILSI's working relationships with FAO and WHO have been managed through the International Organizations Committee (IOC).  In recent years, it was felt some goals could be better met with the PIP approach:

• Sharing interaction with FAO ad WHO more effectively across ILSI
• Enhancing the tripartite approach in its work with FAO and WHO
• Increasing human and financial resources for collaborative activities

Operational Changes

While the IOC was a working group of ILSI members and science advisors, the PIP is made up of representatives from the ILSI branches, the ILSI Research Foundation, and an advisory group composed of an equal number of industry and non-industry representatives. This structure better reflects how the collaborative work with FAO and WHO is primarily carried out by the ILSI branches and the Research Foundation.
