Towards Establishing Dietary Reference Intakes for Eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acids (DHA)

This paper summarizes a workshop sponsored by the Dietary Lipids Committee that presented the current scientific understanding of the impact of dietary EPA and DHA on cardiovascular,neurocognitive, and cancer outcomes. An expert panel concluded that consistent evidence support a dietary reference intake of 250-500 mg per day for the reduction of fatal coronary heart disease risk and that additional data are needed to determine the impact of these fatty acids on other health outcomes.
