Obesity - From Insight to Action: A Global Perspective
Saturday 10 July from 9.00am to 5.00pm including a networking lunch
Nordic Sea Hotel, Stockholm
The objective of the meeting was two-fold - firstly to showcase the range of obesity work undertaken by ILSI branches worldwide but to also bring together a range of stakeholders to discuss openly, using the tripartite model, on how insight provided by the scientific research can be translated into practical action, and opportunities to build partnerships to achieve this.
The main outcome of the meeting and facilitated discussion at the end of the day, highlighted the need for workable partnerships between academia, industry and public health campaigners, particularly in the area of knowledge transfer and efficient use of resources. Specific topics, such as early pre/post natal nutrition and childhood activity programmes, such as the TAKE 10! and HAPPY 10! would be a good focus point. In addition, building advocacy programmes and training to improve childhood obesity monitoring and surveillance would be a good opportunity for building partnerships, e.g. a joint initiative with WHO Europe is under discussion.
