Published in 2006, the monograph is a comprehensive guide to the safety assessment of genetically modified foods for use by safety assessors in the SEA region. The monograph addresses issues such as understanding the concept of risk assessment, substantial equivalence, host and donor organisms, modification method, molecular characterization, nutritional consideration, assessment of allergenic or toxic effects, and how the scientific information is used to make decision about safety.
