Published in 2004, the monograph provides an introduction to the global regulatory status of functional foods, followed by a summary of recent activities in scientific substantiation of functional and health claims among various countries and international organizations. The monograph also provide a summary of the Asian position on functional foods based on the status in 11 countries and regions in Asia, the regulatory systems implemented in certain Asian country, the market, and consumer perceptions on functional foods. Summaries of the functional properties of certain functional foods commonly used in Asian culture and the relevant studies are also available as an annex to the monograph.
