Note from the Editor-in-Chief
Eight years ago, Tufts University and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy embarked on a major effort to enlarge and facilitate the incorporation of expanding nutritional knowledge into the practice of medicine and disease prevention by publishing this journal, Nutrition and Clinical Care, directed to people in the practice of health care. Since that time, we have published eight volumes filled with articles that have been key in helping health care providers incorporate nutrition information into their daily practices by advising and educating patients and in their own continuing medical education.
We are proud of that record and grateful to Blackwell Publishing (the publisher for volumes 1 through 5) and the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI; the publisher for volumes 6 through 8) for their confidence in taking on this new journal. We are particularly grateful to the medical and nutrition scientists and practitioners who have provided state-of-the-art reviews and instructions, which have been the core of this publication and our communication to health care providers and their patients.
Such an endeavor has significant costs, which have been borne by Tufts University and by Blackwell and ILSI as publishers. Ultimately, the sustainability of this activity depends on financial support, as well as volunteerism, and it is regrettable that we have not had enough financial support, especially from subscriptions, to sustain this publication economically. The rationale for this publication is as valid now as it was 8 years ago, and it is likely that it will reappear in a different format, possibly totally web-based, to address the continuing needs of physicians and health care providers in their use of good nutrition in practice. Until that happens, I must advise you, our readers and supporters, that this will be the last print issue of Nutrition and Clinical Care. Our gratitude to you for your support and confidence is immeasurable.
