The NanoRelease Steering Committee and Advisors have outlined the criteria listed below for selecting materials to consider.
If you would like to comment on these criteria or to suggest additonal criteria, please e-mail us at NanoRelease@ilsi.org with the subject line "criteria." Life Cycle Release Scenarios
Materials are preferred that have uses that could potentially result in occupational contact, direct consumer contact, general/incidental population contact, and environment release.
Magnitude and Breath of Distribution of Releases
Likelihood of release through multiple use and release scenarios, absolute magnitude of release in any applications, release mechanisms broadly relevant to other materials that are also widely used.
Relevance to Commercial Product Uses
Relevant to likely or current uses of materials in commerce, relevant to specific applications of nanomaterials, increasing trend of uses of the material type in commerce.
Features
Unique ‘nano-specific’ measurement features, relative importance of one class of nanomaterial for broad categories of current and future uses, potential adaptability of methods to a range of sizes, surface coatings, or other features of the material.
Probability of Project Success
Body of data on material, parallel studies in progress, availability of methods for many of the scenarios, existing guidance, best practices.
