Core Group

The core group will author the Guidelines and plan the workshop to review the guidance in mid-2012.

Expert Bios

Dr. David Cunliffe is the Principal Water Quality Adviser with the South Australian Department of Health.  He led the development of the South Australian Safe Drinking Water Act and has contributed to the development of major recycled water schemes. Dr. Cunliffe has also contributed to a range of national and international guidelines, including World Health Organization (WHO) and Australian guidelines for drinking water quality, use of recycled water and recreational water quality. He has been a member of the WHO Drinking Water Quality Committee since 2001 and chairs the Australian National Water Quality Advisory Committee.

Dr. Choon-Nam Ong, Environmental Toxicologist and Director, NUS Environmental Research Institute in Singapore, chaired the International Expert Panel on the NEWater study from 1998 to 2004 (Singapore). He has been consulted often by international health agencies on issues related to environmental health and is currently a member of the World Health Organization Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality. He co-chaired the Singapore Drinking Water Standards Committee (2007-2010) and is a member of the Orange County Groundwater Replenishment System Advisory Panel. 

John Fawell is a toxicologist and consultant with many years of experience in drinking water standards and guidelines activity. He was chief scientist at the U.K. Water Research Centre’s National Center for Environmental Toxicology. He has been one of the coordinators of the WHO Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality for many years.

Dr. Joseph Cotruvo is an international consultant in water quality, technology, health and regulatory issues. He was the first director of EPA’s drinking water standards division producing many of the current drinking water regulations and risk assessments and regulatory methodologies. He serves on numerous advisory panels dealing with drinking water, water reuse, desalination and water minerals and health issues, and he has been one of the coordinators of the WHO Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality for many years. 

Dean Davidson is a microbiologist by training and Consumer Safety Officer and program manager for the interstate travel program for the US Food and Drug Administration Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. He has served on WHO studies dealing with sanitation in transportation.

Dr. Ana Maria De Roda Husman is a research microbiologist and virologist with the National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) in the Netherlands.  She has been one of the coordinators of the WHO Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality. 

Dr. Andrew Eaton is Vice President and Technical Director of Montgomery Watson Harza Laboratories in California and is currently responsible for global marketing and methods development for emerging contaminants.

Dr. Blanca Jiménez is an environmental engineer and member of the Faculty of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Her work focuses on water and wastewater treatment technology. She serves on numerous panels assessing water quality and technology and environmental issues.

The outside review group will peer review the Guidelines.
